Beaches Near Kaba Kaba, Tabanan: What to Expect

Kaba Kaba sits about 10 to 15 minutes by road from the nearest beaches on Tabanan's black-sand southwest coast. The closest coastal landmark is Tanah Lot, one of Bali's most recognisable sea temples, roughly 10 minutes south by motorbike or car. For an open surf and swimming beach, Kedungu is the first practical option, about 15 to 20 minutes away.

Tanah Lot sits on a small coral island that becomes accessible on foot at low tide. It is a functioning Hindu temple rather than a swim spot, and an entry fee applies for visitors. The surrounding area has food stalls and the coastal walk at low tide gives a clear sense of the raw Tabanan shoreline. Sunset is busy; early afternoon is noticeably quieter.

Kedungu Beach is the main surf and leisure beach in the area. It lies between Tanah Lot and Canggu and offers a beginner-friendly sand and rock beach break on a wide stretch of black volcanic sand. Board hire and surf lessons are available directly on the beach. The crowd is smaller than Echo Beach or Batu Bolong in Canggu, with fewer vendors and a more local atmosphere. Families with children who want to try a first surf lesson often come here rather than the busier Canggu breaks.

Kelating Beach, further north along the Tabanan coast, is quieter with fewer facilities. The flat foreshore is easy to walk, but rips and swell can run strong, so check conditions before entering the water. It suits a picnic or a long walk rather than a casual swim.

Getting between Kaba Kaba and any of these beaches is straightforward. A hired motorbike gives the most flexibility. Most approach roads are paved. Expect heavier traffic toward Tanah Lot around sunset, so morning or early afternoon visits tend to be less congested.
